Crowne Plaza Hotel

The CAWS Spring Seminar on February 28, 2011 will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Irvine California approximately 1 mile from the John Wayne Airport. Bob Poole, Regional Development Specialist from the Vancouver IB office will give the keynote address regarding “IB Recognition – taking the message to government, an Alternative Pathway “ to California graduation requirements. Due to recent developments, Bob will explore the concepts of alignment of the IB with the Common Core, and Recognition of the International Baccalaureate Diploma for California high school graduation requirements. Two studies are currently being conducted looking at the alignment of IB, the state standards in MA, CA, and TX, and KSUS against the common core. Additionally, a working group has been convened from California schools, districts and the Department of Education to review IB-DP requirements, align them with current state graduation requirements and draft a document for use in proposing policy (or legislation should it be needed). Marjorie Mc Connell, curriculum specialist and consultant from the California Department of Education will attend and assist Bob in the Diploma breakout sessions. MYP and PYP teachers will have their own special breakout sessions tailored to their IB Programmes. Check the website for details of the day’s agenda.
