May Newsletter by Pat Prather

The 2014-15 school year is about to go into the record books and it is time to get ready for IB testing, portfolio reading and project submissions. I’m looking forward to reading portfolios myself in a couple of weeks at Pacific Beach Middle School. It will be a new experience for me and should be fun. This has been a year of change for CAWS - two new Board members, a new webmaster, and new ideas surfacing all the time. This is our first year of giving Outstanding Student of the Semester monetary awards to nominees from IB schools, and we think it will be a great success. The money for these awards comes from the yearly dues that schools pay to be CAWS members. It is our way of giving back to you and your students for your on-going support of our association. The number of IB schools in California continues to grow and we hope to continue to be of service to all of you.

Student of the Semester Awards

Nominations are due May 1 To Rebecca Farley, our Scholarship/Awards chairperson. The nomination form and description of the awards are on the website along with Rebecca’s e-mail address. Nominate your student now before the deadline

Caws will again be a sponsor of the Annual IBA Regional Conference in Chicago, Ill July 23-26, 2015 and sponsor a booth. Educating for Life is the theme of the conference. If you are planning to attend, stop by our table and say “Hi”.

October 26th is the date now set for our Fall Forum in Sacramento at the Sheraton Grand Hotel. Chris Overhoff and Lou Marchesano have agreed to come and be the keynoters for the day, presenting "Approaches to Learning" targeting DP/MYP/PYP curriculums. Both Chris and Lou are consultants, CAWS workshop leaders, teachers, and IB examiners. Their presentation in the Spring in San Diego was outstanding and very interactive – a big hit with everyone.
