February 2010 Newsletter by Pat Prather

Coordinators and Administrators
Hopefully the beginning of the second semester of the 2009-10 school year was smooth and successful with you and your students eager to return to the classroom. You are doing a terrific job of managing to do so much with so little. Thank you for continuing to pull off this feat every year despite all of the upheaval and uncertainty in our government offices with their continued cuts in the educational budget. You are amazing!

The primary focus of this newsletter is on our upcoming spring seminar in San Diego at the end of February and our IB teacher training workshops (DP, MYP, PYP) in Lake Tahoe at the end of June, 2010.

There are many reasons to sign up for these offerings:
You learn how to make the Learner Profile usable!
You get the best leaders and trainers!
You get super accommodations, food, and ambiance!
You get the latest information on IB course content!
You get to socialize with great IB teachers from around the world!
You get your money's worth!

Sign up online for the Spring Seminar February 22nd featuring Dr. Jerry Chris working with The Learner Profile in all three IB Programmes.
The Spring Seminar will be held at the Horton Grand Hotel in San Diego. Dr. Jerry Chris, former Mission Viejo TOK teacher and author, is the featured speaker. He will talk about "Differentiation, Brain Research and the Learner Profile" which relates to the CAWS 2009-2010 theme of "The IB Vision 2020", new ways of thinking in a new world. His presentation will focus on the Learner Profile as a vibrant set of critical thinking skills necessary to succeed in tomorrow's world. Learn how to actuate it in your courses K-12, and not just see it as words on a document filed away in a notebook. Dr. Chris has prepared activities geared to PYP, MYP, DP teachers. This will be a hands-on conference with breakout sessions and lots of exchange and interchange among teachers. Early registration takes place the evening of the 21st and a special rate for hotel rooms has been designated. Check our website now to register and book your room!
